As we slowly creep towards Halloween, the creative juices are flooding my wee little brain. Unfortunately, I have some mild obsessive tendencies so when I get a great idea stuck in my head I can’t rest until I find all the perfect pieces needed to bring it to life. My idea this year involves tiny skeletons and needless to say, finding the skeletons I pictured in my mind haven’t been easy to locate – until yesterday.
Yankee Candle launched their 2012 Halloween product line this weekend and while looking for a pair of new dress shoes I decided to go in the store at the mall and get a whiff of the new Happy Halloween candle scent. When I walked in my eyes immediately honed in on these tiny little skeletons hanging from a jar (pictured above). They were absolutely perfect and exactly what I envisioned. However, only 2 were available. I purchased both of them and then hurried home to jump online and locate others.
I was shocked to see that the Yankeecandle.com web site showed the items as SOLD OUT. I then located stores within a 50 mile radius of Louisville and called them all. Each store repeated the same horrible news – SOLD OUT. How was it possible for items that were just released within the last week to be completely sold out? I called customer service at Yankee Candle (which, I must say, was one of the best customer service experiences I’ve ever had with a retail store) who notified me that they were in fact sold out and they did not expect to receive any additional shipment. The extremely nice representative advised me to call their flagship store in Williamsburg, VA, who thought that they MAY have a couple available.
When I called the store I expected them to say they were sold out, too. Luckily, they weren’t and I purchased the last 10 they had in stock. I feel fortunate to have 12 of these skeletons in total, but that’s still not enough to create what I originally had in mind. As Tim Gunn says, “make it work!” And, “make it work” I shall, but that OCD of mine still has me a little disappointed that I wasn’t able to find more.
Keep watching over the next few weeks to see what macabre masterpiece I’m creating…I’m sure you’ll want one for your Halloween celebrations.
